It has a regular and grammatical function within the dialect. It is a grammatical feature of a certain dialect/ethnolect of English, here precisely Black English or as linguists call it African American Vernacular English (AAVE). It is not really right to call it slang, nor is it a pun/jeu de mot as RedHairFrenchGuy has suggested. Like others have said, "I beez" is a corruption of "I be" which in standard English is "I am". I would just like to clear a few things that I disagree with in this thread.
